Summer Adventure at Sleeping Bear Point

I had the absolute joy of joining the Tepe Family for a fun-filled photo session at one of my favorite spots in northern Michigan Sleeping Bear Point. From the moment we arrived at the trailhead, I knew it was going to be a relaxed and playful evening.

We kicked things off at the top of the dunes, where their oldest was instantly in his element running wild and free through the soft sand, with their parents in tow. There’s something magical about watching families let loose together, and the laughter and energy were contagious. We spent time chasing each other up and down the dunes, capturing candid moments filled with joy, movement, and just the right amount of chaos that makes sessions like these so memorable.

After everyone had their fill of dune climbing, we made our way down to the beach. The walk down is one of the things I love about Sleeping Bear Point it’s a bit easier than some of the steeper climbs nearby, which means more time exploring and less huffing and puffing. Once we reached the Lakeshore, the adventure continued. Their oldest dipped their toes into the water and played among the waves, while the youngest was content sitting on the shore, watching the world go by with wide eyes.

We spent time collecting cool rocks, splashing in the water, and just soaking in the peaceful rhythm of the lake. These little moments muddy feet, wet pant cuffs, wind in your hair are the ones that tell the story of childhood, and I love being able to freeze them in time.

As the sun began to dip lower, we made our way back up to the top of the dune to catch the golden light. There’s nothing quite like that warm, glowing light at the end of the day it bathed the landscape (and their beautiful family) in a dreamy, golden hue. We wrapped up the session in the most perfect way: with tired legs, full hearts, and a few giggles thanks to a well-earned M&M treat for the kids.

Sleeping Bear Point is such a gem for family photos it offers those classic Sleeping Bear Dunes vibes, but with a gentler climb and easier access to the Lakeshore. It’s the perfect mix of sand, sun, and water, and it gives families space to explore, connect, and just be themselves.

This session with the Tepe Family reminded me why I love what I do. It wasn't just about taking pictures it was about documenting an experience, a little adventure shared as a family. I left with sandy shoes, a full memory card, and a big smile on my face.
